Roots Rock Vocalist of the Year BILLY COULTER Releases Highly Anticipated Second CD: “DOSE”

Washington, DC (5/12/2008) – Award-winning singer/songwriter Billy Coulter is proud to announce his highly anticipated second CD release, “Dose,” on the Confluence Records label. Coulter’s self-titled debut recording earned praise from many, including rock music icon Ian Hunter. Coulter’s new disc, was produced by award winner Marco Delmar of Recording Arts Studios, and contains 10 songs—among them “Party of One,” recently won honors from the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest.”

Coulter’s triumphant return to writing and performing Roots Rock/Power Pop began in 2003. In the past five years, Coulter’s songwriting and distinctive vocal style has earned him several regional accolades, including the latest Washington Area Music (WAMMIE) Award for Roots Rock Vocalist of the Year. Coulter and his band play regularly in the mid-Atlantic region, often supporting touring national acts, and performing at festivals and venues such as Strathmore, Wolf Trap, Rams Head, and IOTA.

Already a respected artist with a loyal following, Coulter has a signature sound that is only now being more broadly embraced by the music press. “’Dose’ is an album five years in the making, with some of my most hear-felt songs yet, just waiting to be discovered. I’m dealing with loneliness, lost innocence, self-obsession and the trials of having a conscience – the real things that real people can connect with and relate to,” said Coulter.

Producer Delmar noted, "Billy Coulter represents what's right about American Roots Rock ‘n Roll: The energy and enthusiasm to genuinely make you rock, and the creativity to make you realize you are hearing something truly unique. He doesn't hide his true feelings from you, and you sense in his music that he hopes you'll return the favor."

The compilation also features two high-energy favorites from the group’s live performances written by band members -- “Age of Trains” by former bassist Barry Warsaw and “Wake Me” by guitarist Tommy Derr. Coulter also came up with two cover treatments that stand out on the album: a Bo Diddley-beat rendition of “Ring of Fire” and a nod to his musical hero, Mott The Hoople’s Ian Hunter, on “I Wish I Was Your Mother,” replete with a soulful, melancholy guitar figure.

To celebrate the release, a CD release show is scheduled for Saturday, June 21 at McGinty's in Silver Spring, MD, featuring an opening set by (“Dose” guest artist) Patty Reese. Other special guests are scheduled to appear throughout the night including keyboardist Brian Simms (Junkyard Saints) who contributed to the new album.
